Two cases of hypertensive Martorell’s leg ulcers

چکیده
Background Martorell’s ulcer is also a type of ischaemic ulcer occurring in hypertensive patients. The main features of this lesion are the following: location on the lower anteroexterior surface of the lower two thirds of the leg; pain far more severe than is expected given the size of the ulcer; significant arterial or venous disease; female-tomale predominance, association with no-controlled hypertension [2]. We describe two recent cases of hypertensive patients.

The analgesic effect of electrostimulation (WoundEL®) in the treatment of leg ulcers.
This study aims to demonstrate the analgesic efficacy of electrostimulation (ES), a recognised treatment for leg ulcers. Patients treated by ES for leg ulcers between 2011 and 2013 were included in the study. The pain score obtained with the numerical rating scale (NRS) was reported before the start of the ES (D0), after 3 days (D3) and 1 week following treatment initialisation. The analgesic t...
متن کاملCaring for patients with leg ulcers and an underlying vasculitic condition.
It is not uncommon for nurses in the community to encounter patients with leg ulceration combined with rheumatic disease, particularly rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aetiology of the leg ulcers in these cases is rarely straightforward, and the management of the ulcers is correspondingly complex. Management may be further complicated in the presence of vasculitis, an uncommon disorder in which i...
متن کاملLeg ulcers in severity of sickle cell diseases
Objective : Background: We tried to understand whether or not there are some positive correlations between leg ulcers and severity of sickle cell diseases (SCDs). Methods: All patients with SCDs were taken into the study. Results: The study included 346 patients with the SCDs (175 males). There were 50 cases (14.4%) with leg ulcers. Interestingly, the male ratio was significantly higher in pati...
متن کاملPhototherapy (LEDs 660/890nm) in the treatment of leg ulcers in diabetic patients: case study.
This study evaluated the use of phototherapy in the healing of mixed leg ulcers in two diabetic patients (type 2) with arterial hypertension. The device had probe 1 (one 660 nm LED, 5 mW) applied in 3 ulcers and probe 2 (32 890 nm LEDs associated with 4 660 nm LEDs, 500 mW) in 6 ulcers. After asepsis, ulcers were treated with probes to 3 J/cm2, 30 sec per point, twice a week, followed by topica...

By BENJAMIN R. GENDEL, M.D. C HRONIC LEG ULCERS have been described as a complication of several diseases of the blood and are best known in association with sickle cell anemia. Diggs and Ching1 reported that chronic ulcers or scars of old ulcers were present in 75 per cent of adults with this disease. However, it is less commonly appreciated that other diseases of the blood may present the com...
